Home Farm Café

Sue enjoys a seasonal evening feast at Home Farm Café, Parke, Bovey Tracey

You will find this award-winning café on the edge of the moors at Parke, Bovey Tracey. I often pop in after a walk for a rewarding lunch, drink or for one of Head Chef Tom Stewart’s delicious scones. Heading there for dinner gives me another chance to enjoy more fabulous plates of food that Tom and his team manage to turn out from their tiny kitchen. Local and seasonal produce is at the cafe’s heart, with meat sourced from just up the road and most suppliers within a twenty-mile radius.

There is always a warm welcome, friendly staff, twinkly lights and cosy seating. You will definitely feel at home. My friend and I were happy sipping a glass of wine, perusing the winter menu, nibbling on warm sourdough, and looking out onto the pretty courtyard. We both said we wanted to eat everything on the menu!

My friend ordered the arancini to start, which were light, fluffy, tasty balls of rice with a delicate crispy batter on the outside. In fact, we agreed that they were the best we had ever eaten. I chose the perfectly pink and delicious duck. The candied hazelnuts added a lovely crunch to my dish.

For mains, I tucked into a succulent chicken breast and the little pie filled with chorizo and chicken was delightful. I’m glad I kept a chunk of bread so I could mop my plate! My friend enjoyed the brisket, which was deep and rich in flavour, topped with smooth, creamy potato.

My dessert of cherry and white chocolate torte was full of both of these complementary flavours. My friend’s “scrumptious” apple cake came with homemade honeycomb, which added texture and another sweetness, and she loved it.

You’ll be sure to enjoy an evening with fabulous food at this wonderful café. We certainly did.

Dinner is served on select Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Visit the website for dates and availability.
