Crusty Crab Pizza

Review
Pizza at The Crabshell Inn

Sue Stoneman ventures to Kingsbridge to taste The Crabshell Inn’s pizza menu

Well known for its fresh, fishy dishes, The Crabshell Inn is also making a mark on the local foodie map for its freshly baked pizzas, which you can enjoy any time of the day, be it for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Seated at our cosy table downstairs by the wood fire, we enjoyed the views out onto the terrace and estuary beyond, watching the boats and wildlife. We loved the decor inside – a seaside, Mediterranean style with wooden tables and nurtured plants giving a light and homely vibe. There is ample seating outside too, for those dry, sunny days.

My husband couldn’t resist The Crusty Crab pizza. On top of the tomato and lobster glaze sat tender, white crab meat and silky ricotta cheese. A caramelised lemon added a refreshing citrus hit and texture to liven the palate. My husband also really enjoyed the thin and crispy base.

I went for the What The Duck pizza. Think Chinese crispy duck pancake served on a pizza base. I could taste the sweet hoisin sauce along with the shredded duck’s flavour, with the added crunch of refreshing cucumber and zingy spring onion.

We cut the pizzas in half and shared them, so we got to taste them both. They were full of flavour and texture. The dough is handmade on the premises and the pizzas are made to order with fresh, local ingredients. They are brought to the table on a wooden board with a pizza cutter, so you can slice and share if you like.

There are plenty of toppings on offer, and the chef will happily add any toppings of your choice – you can even have a combination if you find two pizzas you like and can’t decide. Gluten-free options are also available. The pizzas are large enough to share, depending on your appetite. If you can’t manage it all, you can take the rest home in a box to eat later.

The Crabshell Inn really is a perfect place to enjoy a delicious pizza with friends and family.
