Taste Buds talks to Aune Valley Meat about its growing business
Where are you based?
Situated between Loddiswell and Kingsbridge, Aune Valley Meat farm shop is a traditional, family-run business that serves a growing mix of customers. As well as shoppers, it caters for restaurants, hotels and pubs.
Tell us about your farm shop.
Beef, pork and lamb are sourced from local farms with full traceability from birth to shop. Poultry is purchased within Devon, and all Christmas turkeys and geese are also sourced locally.
The expanding farm shop also offers local produce, vegetables, free-range eggs, jams, pickles and ice cream. The in-store deli is an ideal place to stock up on essential cupboard ingredients. It has a wide selection of cheese, pâtés and olives, alongside freshly baked pasties, quiches, sausage rolls, pies, and home-baked hams and scotch eggs, all of which are prepared and baked on-site in the Valley View Café.
What about Christmas orders?
At Christmas, the experienced butchery team can advise you on every aspect of your Christmas order. Whether you would like traditional poultry – turkey, goose, chicken or duck – or a local beef, pork or lamb joint, the team will advise what size bird or joint you will need, plus give you some recipe ideas and cooking times.
What’s on the menu at your café?
Valley View Café is run by local couple Amy and Richard, who pride themselves on delivering a home-cooked, tasty menu using produce from the Aune Valley Meat farm shop next door.
Diners can enjoy the beautiful views from either outside on the terrace, or from inside the airy café, in a relaxed environment. The daily menu starts with breakfast, which is served from 9-11.45am, followed by lunch served from 12noon-3pm, with homemade cakes and afternoon tea available all day. Coffee comes from Owens in Modbury, and the loose-leaf teas from Plymouth Tea.
