This recipe was given to owner Ann Stallard by her husband’s grandmother, who loved ginger. It’s made with farmhouse cider, Bramley apples and a generous amount of ginger, and then well matured. So versatile, it complements almost anything!

Mangelwurzels are now a rare beet used as a fodder crop for feeding livestock. The Wurzels band and Worzel Gummidge both took their names from this. Waterhouse Fayre uses swede as the nearest equivalent vegetable.

Whortleberry is the Devonian name for wild blueberries that grow on the moors. This light, fruity chutney is particularly good with blue cheese or paté.
