We all love a proper Devon afternoon tea – here are a few we have selected
Indulge in The Grand Hotel’s Afternoon Tea menu. Scones are baked fresh daily - make sure you smother them with the kitchen’s beautiful homemade jam, and a generous dollop of real Devonshire clotted cream. You’re spoilt for choice with this menu - mouthwatering items include freshly made sandwiches, decadent cakes and other treats. Served with tea, coffee, or perhaps something bubbly, in the Hotel’s elegant, Victorian surroundings.
Afternoon Tea at Boringdon Hall is served in the dramatic surroundings of its quintessentially English Great Hall. With care, time and passion the kitchen team has created its indulgent Afternoon Teas menu, complete with delicious scones, sandwiches, cakes and tarts. Vegan and gluten-free options are also available. For an extra special occasion, push the boat out and sample these menus with Laurent-Perrier Champagne pairings.
Served 1pm-4pm, £27 per person, add £14 for the champagne flight.
The Seven Dials Café is found in the picturesque Cockington village, set within an award-winning country park, a mile from Torquay seafront. Immerse yourself in the beautiful surroundings and enjoy a Seven Dials High Tea, offering a selection of scrumptious sandwiches, divine cakes and a variety of crumbly scones, served with plenty of tea. The cafe even serves a chocolate chip Nutella cream tea, along with morning coffees and light lunches. Come along and indulge - there is plenty to see and do at Cockington Court.
There’s plenty to choose from on the special afternoon tea menu at the Cottage Hotel. The full menu includes finger sandwiches, cakes, a scone with jam and cream, and tea or coffee. Other options include a selection of sandwiches, a Devonshire Cream Tea, various homemade cakes, and the Sweet of the Day.
Sandwiches are served from 2pm–6pm; Full Afternoon Tea is served until 6pm (24 hours’ notice needed) at £12 per person, or £19.50 per person, to include a glass of champagne.

The Tudor Rose Tearooms – which is close to the historic Mayflower Steps on the Barbican – has a varied afternoon tea menu that features traditional savoury and sweet options, as well as vegan and gluten-free teas, and a selection specifically for children. In the summer months, guests can enjoy their afternoon tea in the walled garden. Expect mouthwatering dishes from chefs Louise O’Keefe and Gemma Ferguson.
The Hidden Treasure Tea Room’s vintage vibe is an experience in itself. It’s like stepping back in time with a 1930’s inspired menu that’s complemented by netted doilies, colourful bunting and the most floral fine china known to man. The staff have even dressed the part! Everyone is catered for here, with a selection of sweet or savoury afternoon teas, as well as an amuse-bouche on arrival.
Loved by those in the area, afternoon tea at this traditional Devon tea room feels like a visit to grandma’s house. With the endless amount of cakes and snacks to choose from, all served in a cosy atmosphere, this is an award-winning parlour. When you visit, keep an eye out for the window display, which is changed regularly to entertain locals and show events happening in the area.
