Strictly Fruit

Our readers give their verdict on a selection of Waterhouse Fayre’s jam, chutney and coulis from its Strictly Fruit range

Mango and Passion Fruit Coulis, Strawberry Jam and Fig Chutney. All part of the Strictly Fruit range by Waterhouse Fayre

Mango and Passion Fruit Coulis

Vibrant colour with a tropical scent and tangy bite. Thick, rich texture ideal for pouring – perfect over meringue and ice cream. This will add brightness and freshness to a summer dessert.

Rosalind Waterfield, Plymouth

This brightly coloured coulis manages the balance between a smooth texture and perfect thickness. Fantastically fresh and the mango flavour shines.

Melanie Brooks, Teignmouth

I sneaked some of this in with natural yoghurt before my ‘proper’ sampling – sublime! An enticing colour, even before you’ve tried a tongue-tingling drop. I will probably be popping this on everything I can think of.

Sally Creasey, Teignmouth

I tried this with some breaded chicken goujons, and it really was so nice!

Andrea Smith, Teignmouth

Strawberry Jam

Made with whole strawberries, it has a natural colour and mild flavour. I’d enjoy this with afternoon tea, or as a pancake topping.

Rosalind Waterfield, Plymouth

This beautifully dark red jam contains large fruit pieces, which add to the texture and taste.

Melanie Brooks, Teignmouth

It was nice to have a jam that isn’t cloyingly sweet but sweet enough. I’m looking forward to slathering this on hot, buttered toast, Devonshire Splits, and maybe a sneaky dollop with some ice cream.

Sally Creasey, Teignmouth

In terms of fruit content, this is packed full of strawberries, and not just small pieces: the best jam I’ve seen like this.

Andrea Smith, Teignmouth

Fig Chutney

This is a chunky fig chutney with a reasonable balance of sweet and sour flavours, with a hint of apple/cider aroma. Pair it with goat’s cheese or pork.

Rosalind Waterfield, Plymouth

This smells of fresh apple juice and you can clearly see all the ingredients – figs, apples, onions, sultanas.

Melanie Brooks, Teignmouth

I wasn’t sure how much of a fig fan I was before I tasted this; however, I am now converted! Sweet, full-flavoured with a mellow tang – this would go beautifully with the usual cold meats and cheese, but also with a summer BBQ.

Sally Creasey, Teignmouth

A rich, fruity addition to cheese and crackers. A favourite!

Andrea Smith, Teignmouth
