The Royal Oak is a former 15th-century church house inn. It takes its name from the oak tree on the village green, which is some 800 years old. This is one of the few remaining traditional Dartmoor inns – the bar has a flagstone floor and log fire, and the lounge bar has oak beams and period features.
Thomas Elson-Knight, BBC MasterChef finalist 2019, heads up the kitchen. His menus feature traditional pub food with contemporary cuisine, and the quality and full flavour of his dishes start with sourcing the finest seasonal ingredients locally.
The pub is well known for its selection of quality real ales and scrumpy ciders, alongside guest real ales, all from local brewers.
Food is served seven days a week, at lunchtime from 12noon–2pm, and dinner from 6pm–8pm. Please see the website for the latest updates and opening hours.
